On The Wing tells the complete story of Portland's Chapman Swifts. From the phenomenon itself to the crowds that show up to watch it and the bird's initial discovery to a view inside the chimney. These birds have captivated Portland for decades. Each fall they make their home in the chimney of NW Portland's Chapman Elementary school, putting on a beautiful show each night. I filmed each night of their stay during the fall of 2007 and interviewed hundreds of onlookers. The film also features interviews with some of the most important authorities and personalities surrounding the birds to give an understanding to how the birds impact our city and we impact their lives.
